Hello, and welcome to Creative Nerds. Today’s tutorial, we’re just going to be showing you a new feature which is built into Photoshop in the new instalment of Photoshop 2021. So this new feature is the sky replacement tool, which essentially allows you to replace the sky within almost any image.

So, we’re going to head over to edit and select sky replacement. And then it will bring up this new dialogue box called “sky replacement.” And then, what we want to do is, once it’s finished loading, we’re going to select the sky drop-down. And then there’s a range of different sky presets that we can select, using it in our photograph. So, there’s a range of different blue skies that we can choose from. So, we could change the sky so it’s this lovely cloud image. Or we could change it so it’s more of a spectacular image such as this.

So that once we’ve chosen a preset, what we can then do is we can amend, make adjustments to the sky even further. So if we wanted to increase the brightness, we can do so. If we wanted it to turn on the temperature so it’s a little bit of a colder image, we can also do so. So there’s loads of different adjustments that can be made to the sky replacement that we’ve selected.

Once we’re happy with the end result, we can then select Okay. And then what it will do is it will put the sky replacement into a folder. And then all of our adjustments which have been made will be added as separate layers which we can turn on and off. And even the sky is added in as a separate layer. So if we wanted to, we could replace the sky with a different sky image if we decided to do so in the future. Or we can play around the lighting on the sky if we wanted to, or change the foreground colour. So, having all of the folders having all of their filter options in a separate folder really gives that flexibility to be able to amend the sky image even further.

This is a great addition to Photoshop and a feature which I can see myself using time and time again when editing photos. Thanks for watching and stay tuned to Creative Nerds for other quick tips on how to use Photoshop.
