Hello, and welcome to Creative NERDS. In this Photoshop tutorial, we’ll be sharing with you how you can restore color to a black and white photo. This technique pretty much works with any photograph that you have that’s in black and white. So, this is a picture of Marilyn Monroe, and we’re just gonna restore the color within it. So, to do this, we’re gonna head over to filter. This will bring up a dialog box. And then we’re gonna head over to the beta filters available, and colorized may not be available as an option for you.
So, what you need to do is select the download cloud to download their filter into your version of Photoshop. Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to just simply toggle the button, and then you’ll notice that it’ll just spin around, the loading button, until it loads the effects. It takes a few seconds or so. So just bear with it. So it all depends on how fast your computer is and how much RAM you have allocated to Photoshop will determine how quick it will take.
The effect is now being applied, and you can notice that it’s doing a really good job of restoring the photo. So, you can see that it’s doing a really good job bringing out the blonde in her hair, and her skin tone, and even pick up the nail varnish on her nails, and the wooden panel in the background. It’s even picked up different tones. It absolutely looks great, and it’s a great technique and method for restoring images, and it can be done with almost any old black or white image.
I hope this is been a useful tutorial. So, once you are happy with it, select the output to be smart filter, select okay, and then it will create the new layer as a smart filter, which you can toggle on and off if you don’t wanna apply the filter at a later date. Hope this is been a useful technique and one that you can use in the future while editing photographs. Thanks for watching, and stay tuned to Creative NERDS for quick tips on how to use Photoshop.
