Welcome to Creative Nerds. In today’s Photoshop tutorial, we’ll share how you can create a cylinder text effect using Photoshop. Firstly, we’ll start by duplicating our original layer of our model. Then, we’re going to select the “Select Subject” option, or you can use the Magic Wand tool. We’re simply going to isolate the model so she’s no longer on the pink background. Next, we’ll head over to a Layer Mask, which isolates the model from the pink background.
The next step is to go to our Adjustment Layer options and select “Black and White,” which will create a black and white mask. We’ll keep that as the top layer. Then, we’re going to write out some text. We’ll go with “Creative,” and center it in the middle of our canvas. We’ll then press Command T or Control T if on a Windows PC, right-click, select “Warp.” Then, we’ll go over to the Warp dropdown options and select “Cylinder.” After selecting “Done,” we’ll duplicate that layer once more.
We’ll bring that layer underneath our Masks layer, then drag up the text layer we just created. We’ll press Command T, right-click, “Warp,” and simply drag up the anchor point so it mirrors the effect but goes upwards this time. After pressing Enter, we’ll drag it behind our text to create the cylinder text effect. From there, we’ll select both of our text layers and make this effect bigger so it fills up more of the image. That looks great.
Now, we’ll duplicate each text layer once more and move it up. This time, we’ll go to Blending Options and change the text to white. Select OK, OK again. We’ll do the same for the text layer that’s behind the Masks layer. Duplicate the layer, select OK, then select Blending Options again, change the color overlay to white, and move the layer up that we just duplicated and changed the Blending Options on. We’ll simply move that layer up. And there you go, we’ve created a really cool cylinder text effect which takes less than a few minutes to achieve the end result. There’s so much more that you can add to this to further enhance the design. Thanks for watching, and stay tuned to Creative Nerds for further quick tips on how to use Photoshop.
