10 Best free extensions for Brackets

Brackets is a free open source modern day editor perfect for web design with new releases every 2 to 4 weeks. I’ve been using it for the past year or so, and is certainly my favourite editor I’ve ever used when it comes to front end development. One of my favourite things about Brackets is its feature rich, and there is a huge library of plugins/extensions you can install into brackets within a matter of seconds.

These are my personal favourite extensions, which if your users of brackets I highly recommend installing, and trying out for yourself. If your yet not a user of brackets some of these snazzy extension I’m sure will make you a fan of Brackets.

1. Dark soda

This is a beautiful dark brackets theme by Monokai. This is one of my favourite brackets themes.

2. Code folding

A code folding extension for Brackets based on CodeMirror’s folding addon. Peforms code folding based on brace ({}, []) matching and multiline comments for javascript, json, css, php and less files. Also has some support for html and xml files based on tag matching.

WP Functions Hint – plugin for Brackets, which will help you in writing WordPress Themes/Plugins

4. Brackets-wp-hint

Brackets extension that will insert a chosen HTML template into the current file. Currently this will overwrite the current content of the file so it should be used on new, empty files. If there is a content a small warning is displayed.

5. Brackets Git

Brackets-Git is an extension for Brackets editor – it provides Git integration for Brackets. It’s tested and works on any platform supported by Brackets (Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux).

6. Emmet

Emmet is a web-developer’s toolkit that can greatly improve your HTML & CSS workflow.

7. QuickFormTool

An extension for Adobe Brackets to insert form elements into editor quickly.

8. Brackets notes

Extension for Brackets that allows the user to easily add and manage notes, with Markdown support.

9. JS Hint

To see the extension in action, open a JavaScript file. In the bottom right corner of your editor you will either see a green checkmark (which means no problems were found) or a yellow exclamation mark. Click on the exclamation mark and a bottom panel will open listing all the problems found.

10. brackets-beautify

This little beautifier will reformat and reindent ugly HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
